USA Wrestling's Folkstyle Tour of America made its second successful stop at the Georgia Grind in Suwanee, Georgia, last weekend. The tournament featured more than 400 youth wrestlers from across the nation.
Outstanding wrestlers from each division include Bantam wrestler Dylan Taylor (60 lbs.) of Team Florida, Intermediate wrestler Mitchell Patton (80 lbs.) of Banks County Wrestling Club, Novice wrestler Thomas Harris (130 lbs.) of Collins Hill, and Middle School wrestler Erich Tori (152 lbs.) of South Georgia Athletic Club.
Athletes from Georgia had a tremendous performance, winning 27 out of 55 individual titles. The Wrestling Academy from Georgia won the team title in three divisions (Intermediate, Novice and Middle School) and the South Paulding Junior Spartans of Georgia captured the Bantam team title.
"The first annual Georgia Grind was a tremendous success. The athletes, coaches and spectators enjoyed a competitive National event," Pete Isais, Director of National Events, said. "USA Wrestling would like to thank all the participants, officials, and parents who attended the Georgia. A special thanks to Suwannee Sports Academy, Gwinnett Sports Commission, and all the Team Georgia volunteers. USA Wrestling will build off this year's success to make next year even bigger and better."
Florida had eight individual champions, and South Carolina had four champions. A total of 12 different states featured at least one individual champion.
U.S. Future Olympian Rankings are now updated through the Georgia Grind. See the updated list at www.themat.com/kidrankings.
