2009 U.S. Freestyle World Team member Jake Herbert (Evanston, Ill./New York AC) received the most votes from fans to receive $5,000 to support his training from the popular website Kolat.com.

Olympian and two-time World medalist Cary Kolat is the founder of Kolat.com, and decided to help a U.S. World Team member with a donation. Kolat allowed wrestling fans to go to his website and vote for the U.S. World Team member who would receive the money. Voting ended on June 19.

"It is unbelievable," said Herbert of receiving the funding from Kolat.com. "So many things have happened for me in a row. It is a great honor to be supported by so many fans. It will help me tremendously in my training."

Kolat said that the fan response was very strong, and that he was very pleased with how the contest worked out.

"The voting went great. I didn't realize how many fans would come out. We didn't realize the numbers of people who would support our wrestlers. It was a tight race. Many other wrestlers also received a lot of votes," said Kolat.

Herbert considers Kolat one of his wrestling idols, so when he received word that he would receive the funding, it was rewarding.

"He is amazing," said Herbert. "He has always been one of my heroes. I am originally from Pennsylvania. He is one of the greatest Pennsylvania wrestlers ever. He had a tremendous college career and was an international star. I consider him one of the best ever. To have someone like him help me to achieve my dreams is unbelievable. He is one of my icons. I am almost speechless. I look up to Cary so much."

Kolat said that all of the World Team members in all three styles were deserving of the support, and he was pleased to be able to help Herbert.

As a former World-class athlete who set the highest goals achievable, Kolat knows what it takes to succeed at the international level. It doesn't matter to Kolat how Herbert uses the funding, because he knows that the support will allow Herbert to have an edge on the mat.

"This will be good. It takes the stress off of you and allow you not to worry about things," said Kolat. "This is all about helping him. He will use it for himself, which takes away the stress. That in itself will help with his training. As far as what he does, whatever he uses it for, if it puts a smile on his face, I will be happy for him."

Herbert just completed his first World Team Training Camp in Colorado Springs, Colo. and will take a few days off to visit with his family before Freestyle Team USA travels to Azerbaijan for training and competition. Herbert has been pleased with his training, and his confidence is high for the World Championships in Denmark in September.

"I expect nothing less than to win the gold," said Herbert. "You don't train to place or to just make the team. I have wrestled in thousands of tournaments and won hundreds of them. This is another tournament to win. I am ready. I don't feel anybody will be able to take this from me."
