FARGO, N.D. - Victoria Anthony won her second straight Junior Nationals women's freestyle title on Monday afternoon at the FargoDome.
But she has much bigger goals she is chasing this year.
She's looking to win a Junior World title.
Anthony continued to gain momentum by rolling to a 7-0, 7-0 technical fall over fellow Californian Alex Gomez in the 102-pound finals in Fargo. Anthony, named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler, placed fifth in the 2008 Junior Worlds.
"I'm so excited, I can't wait for Junior Worlds," Anthony said. "Last year, I took fifth and that wasn't what I wanted at all. I want to win a gold medal this year. Last year, I was so in awe of the whole tournament. This year, I know I will be ready to go."
Anthony also has excelled on the Senior level, placing fourth at the 2009 U.S. Nationals.
Anthony, who has only been wrestling for four years, showed off her skills in another sport in executing throws in the Fargo finals.
"It's all Judo," she said. "I started competing in Judo when I was 6 and I did it for 10 years. That's where those throws come from."
Texas capped the women's tournament when Yadinma Nwaiwu won the title at 220 pounds. Texas won the team title. Nwaiwu repeated as a Junior Nationals champion.
Colorado's Adeline Gray won her third straight Junior Nationals title, winning by first-period fall in the 165 finals. Gray made her first U.S. Senior World Team this year. She won a Junior World title in 2008.
Michigan's C.C. Weber won her third Junior Nationals title. Weber beat Kayla Brendlinger of Pennsylvania in the finals at 109 pounds. Weber took third at the 2009 U.S. Nationals on the Senior level.
Oklahoma's Hanna Martin won her second Junior Nationals title as did Washington's Alisha Beach.
Veronica Carlson of Illinois won the title at 139. She was third at the 2009 U.S. Senior Nationals.
Missouri's Emily Webster scored the winning takedown in the closing seconds, spinning behind New York's Carlene Sluberski to earn a tough three-period win in the 95-pound finals.
