Brandon Slay, USA Wrestling's Assistant National Freestyle Coach and Freestyle Resident Coach, has announced the athletes who have committed to being freestyle resident athletes at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Included in the group are five current members of Freestyle Team USA, the national team for freestyle wrestling in the nation.

"I believe the U.S. Olympic Training Center Resident Freestyle program has proven to be the best environment for preparing wrestlers to become Olympic and World Champions, and our previous gold medals since 2000 prove it," said Slay, who was a Resident Athlete when he won the Olympic gold medal at the Sydney Olympic Games.

"Our staff is very excited to build upon the program's past success with our current team of 10 committed wrestlers- two which are World Team members and five which are National Team members," he said.

Two members of the 2009 U.S. World Team will be resident athletes in the program, Trent Paulson of the Sunkist Kids at 66 kg/145.5 pounds and Jake Herbert of the New York AC at 84 kg/185 lbs.

Also joining the program as resident athletes are No. 2 ranked Travis Paulson of the Sunkist Kids at 74 kg/163 lbs., No 2 ranked Bryce Hasseman of the New York AC at 84 kg/185 lbs. and No. 2 ranked Andy Hrovat of the New York AC at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

The Paulson twins will also be training part-time in Ames, Iowa with their alma mater at Iowa State Univ. Herbert will be also training part time at his alma mater Northwestern and with the Overtime WC.

Also joining the program is Scott Steele of the Navy Mat Club, who qualified for the national team last year after placing third in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Steele will train as an on-campus resident through the rest of the 2009 year, then return to the U.S. Naval Academy at the start of 2010 to complete his senior year in college.

Other talented athletes in the program include Derek Moore of the U.S. Army at 60 kg/132 lbs. and Mike Tamillow of the New York AC at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Moore was a NCAA Div. I champion for Cal-State Davis, and is a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete program. Tamillow currently holds a No. 4 national ranking at his weight class.

Two talented prospects who graduated high school last year, Cory Mock of North Carolina at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Jon McArthur of Colorado at 60 kg/132 lbs. are also part of the program.

"The coaching staff is continuing to evaluate committed wrestlers on the high school, college, and Senior levels who dream of being Olympic and World Champions in Freestyle wrestling and further strengthen the OTC as premier freestyle training environment in the nation," said Slay.

The USOTC resident athletes will work regularly with Slay, National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones and Assistant National Freestyle Coach Bill Zadick. All are past gold medalists, with Jones and Zadick winning World gold medals during their competitive careers. Like Slay, Zadick won his World gold medal while he was a USOTC resident athlete.

"Coach Slay is building on the excellence and the tradition of our resident program. As a coach, he embodies the standard of excellence that America has been accustomed to," said National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones. "Coach Slay and Coach Zadick are primed to help the next generation of American wrestlers achieve their goals. Most of all, they are the best coaches, people, champions, and leaders that our country has to offer."
