R.C. Johnson wins silver medal on final day of Pytlasinski Tournament in Poland

MYSLOWICE, Poland - R.C. Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) won a silver medal at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. on the final day of the prestigious Pytlasinski International Tournament on Sunday.
Johnson won three straight matches over top competitors to reach the finals, where he was defeated by 2006 World bronze medalist Kaloyan Dinchev of Bulgaria.
Competitors from many of the world's most successful Greco-Roman programs are entered in this prestigious pre-World Championships tuneup event.
Johnson opened with a victory over Ashol Komar of India. In the quarterfinals, he defeated 2007 European silver medalist Jimmy Lidberg of Sweden. His semifinal victory was over 2006 World champion Heiki Nabi of Estonia.
Johnson is a member of the 2009 U.S. World Team which will compete in Denmark in September. It will be his first World Championships appearance.
2009 U.S. World Team member Jeremiah Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) placed 10th at 60 kg/132 lbs. with a 1-1 record. Davis opened with a victory over Paolo Fucile of Italy then was defeated by Hakan Nyblom of Denmark. When Nyblom failed to make the finals, Davis was not eligible for the repechage rounds.
Also competing at 60 kg/132 lbs. was 2007 U.S. World Team member Joe Betterman (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC), who finished with a 1-2 record and did not place in the top 10 of his division.
The U.S. also had a silver medalist on Saturday, when 2009 U.S. World Team member Dremiel Byers (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) placed second at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
The U.S. finished in a tie for fifth in the team standings of this 21-nation tournament with France with 24 points. Russia won the team title, followed by Bulgaria, Germany and Hungary.
