USA Wrestling has approved the addition of wildcard qualifiers for the men's freestyle competition at the World Team Trials.

The National Freestyle Coach may select as many as one athlete per weight class as wildcards for the World Team Trials event. These wildcards will be reviewed and approved by a three-member sub-committee appointed by the chairperson of the Freestyle Sport Committee.

The National Freestyle Coach does not have to name a wildcard in every weight class, but will select no more than one athlete in any weight class.

This new qualifying procedure was passed by the Freestyle Sport Committee and approved by USA Wrestling's Executive Committee in early April.

The wildcards will be available in men's freestyle only.

The World Team Trials, presented by the U.S. Marines, will be held in Council Bluffs, Iowa, May 30-31.

The men's freestyle wildcard selections will not be announced until after the final qualifying event, the Northern Plains Senior Regional Championships in Waterloo, Iowa on May 16.
