Chun, Miranda headline list of women's freestyle finalists at U.S. Nationals

LAS VEGAS - Veterans Clarissa Chun and Patricia Miranda looked dominant in rolling to the finals of the U.S. Nationals in women's freestyle wrestling.
Chun, a 2008 Olympian and World champion, notched three convincing wins Thursday morning at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. She advances to face World University silver medalist Sara Fulp-Allen in the finals.
Miranda, a past Olympic and World medalist, won twice to advance to the finals at 51 kg/112.25 lbs. Miranda, upset by Chun in the finals of the 2008 Olympic Trials, will meet World University champion Katherine Fulp-Allen in the finals.
Chun and Miranda both train in Colorado Springs.
The champions in each division will earn No. 1 seeds for the U.S. World Team Trials on May 30-31 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The top seven finishers in each weight class qualify for the World Team Trials.
The U.S. Nationals women's finals are set for 5 p.m. Thursday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Past World Team members Leigh Jaynes and Helen Maroulis will meet in the finals at 55 kg/121 lbs. Maroulis is a senior in high school.
World University champion and 2008 World Team member Elena Pirozhkova advanced to the finals at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. Pirozhkova will face Vanessa Oswalt in the finals.
Junior World champion Adeline Gray advanced to the final round at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.
World University champion and 2008 World Team member Stephany Lee advanced to the finals at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. She will face Jenna Pavlik, who pinned past World champion Iris Smith in the semifinals. Pavlik is a past fifth-place finisher in the World Championships.
2004 U.S. Nationals champion Natasha Umemoto knocked off 2008 World bronze medalist Tatiana Padilla 5-4, 4-4 in the first round at 59 kg/130 lbs. Padilla, wrestling up a weight class, is the No. 2 seed.
Umemoto then fell to Kelsey Campbell in the semifinals.
