American Airlines NYAC International Open set for Nov. 21-23 in New York

The American Airlines New York Athletic Club Open International Championships, one of the major international wrestling events held each year in the United States, has been set for November 21-23 in New York City.
This outstanding event will be held at the historic New York Athletic Club facility in mid-town Manhattan. Competition will be held in all three Olympic styles of the sport, men's freestyle, men's Greco-Roman and women's freestyle.
This will be the first international wrestling tournament held in the USA during the new season, and the kick-off of the new four-year Olympic cycle.
Top stars from the United States as well as a number of major international wrestling powers are expected at the tournament.
The schedule will be the same as it was during the 2007 event. Greco-Roman and women's freestyle athletes will weigh in on Friday, November 21, and compete on Saturday, November 22. Men's freestyle athletes will weigh in on Saturday, November 22 and compete on Sunday, November 23.

Eight of the 2007 NYAC International champions went on to compete at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, including 2008 Olympic champion Carol Huynh of Canada at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.
The other 2007 NYAC International champions who competed in the Olympics were Greco-Roman wrestlers Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo,/Gator WC/USOEC) at 55 kg/121 lbs., T.C. Dantzler (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Dremiel Byers (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs., men's freestyle wrestlers Ben Askren (Columbia, Mo./Sunkist Kids) at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Steve Mocco (New York AC) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. and women's freestyle wrestler Marcie Van Dusen (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 55 kg/121 lbs.
Prize money is available to medalists at this event. In men's freestyle and Greco-Roman, champions receive $1,000, runners-up receive $500 and third place wrestlers receive $250. In women's freestyle, champions receive $400 and runners-up receive $200. Foreign athletes must be tournament champions to be eligible for prize money.
Competition will be held in the sixth-floor gymnasium at the New York Athletic Club.
