FILA announces 2008 Best Wrestlers of the Year

The international wrestling federation FILA has announced its 2008 Wrestlers of the Year in all three Olympic styles of the sport.

FILA uses a point-system to determine the winners of these awards. Points are allocated to the wrestlers according to their rank in the Olympic Games, World Championship, Golden Grand Prix Final and Continental Championships.

The 2008 FILA "Best Wrestlers of the Year" are:

Freestyle: Vasyl FEDORYSHYN (Ukraine)
Silver medal at the Olympic Games
60 kg Gold medal at the European Championship
Gold medal at the GGP Final: 30 points

Greco-Roman: Rovshan BAYRAMOV (Azerbaijan)
Silver medal at the Olympic Games
55 kg Gold medal at the European Championship
Gold medal at the GGP Final: 30 points

Female: Stanka ZLATEVA (Bulgaria)
Silver medal at the Olympic Games
72 kg Gold medal at the World Championship
Gold medal at the European Championship
Gold medal at the GGP Final: 41 points

"On behalf of FILA, I would like to congratulate these three wrestlers for their outstanding performance," said FILA president Raphaël Martinetti. "The award ceremony for the three Best Wrestlers of the Year will take place on the occasion of the 2009 European Championship in Vilnius, Lithuania."
