USA Wrestling has awarded the National Cadet Dual Meet Championships sites for the next four years.
The 2009 and 2010 National Cadet Dual Meet Championships will be held in Rochester, Minn. The 2011 and 2012 National Cadet Dual Meet Championships will be held in Orlando, Fla.
This popular event for boys features dual-meet competition between state-level teams in the Olympic styles of the sport, freestyle and Greco-Roman. Cadets are athletes who are 15 and 16 years-old.
This will be the first time that this event will be hosted either in Minnesota or Florida.
The 2009 National Cadet Dual Meet Championships will be held June 17-21 at University Center Field House on the campus of Rochester Community College. The date for the 2010 event has not yet been established. The local organizing committee for the events will be the Rochester Amateur Sports Commission (RASC) and Minnesota USA Wrestling.
"We are very excited to be chosen by USA Wrestling to host this prestigious event," said John Larsen, Sports Manager for RASC. "We are looking forward to doing a first-class job. We have a lot of experience running national events and we look forward to having these top-notch athletes come to Rochester. We are partnering with Bill Hinchley and Minnesota USA Wrestling on the event. It is a real community project. We want the athletes to have an experience of a lifetime."
"We are excited to host this event in Rochester with a sports organization which puts on numerous wrestling events," said Pete Isais, USA Wrestling Director of National Events. "Their expertise and enthusiasm will serve the Cadet Duals well. Minnesota USA Wrestling will provide necessary assistance through their state programs."
The 2011 and 2012 National Cadet Dual Meet Championships will be held at the Orlando Convention Center, at dates to be determined. The local organizing committee is the Florida Amateur Wrestling Association (FAWA) and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
"Today represents one our finest hours. USA Wrestling has bestowed a great honor to our organization," said Bill Grant, FAWA chairperson. "FAWA will continue its commitment to USA Wrestling by demonstrating our unwavering desire to make these tournaments the best our country has ever seen. FAWA will partner with the Central Florida Sports Commission to insure the very best for all aspects of the event."
"We are excited to bring the Cadet age group to Orlando, Fla.," said Isais. "Our hopes are that the participants, coaches and families will have an outstanding and competitive event, and enjoy the amazing vacation opportunities in the community."
The Cadet National Duals history goes back to 2000, when the first event was hosted in Pueblo, Colo. The state of Colorado hosted the event for five years, with other sites including Englewood and Greeley. In 2005, the Cadet National Duals moved to Kansas City, Mo., where it has been hosted for the last four years.
The defending Cadet National Duals freestyle champion is Oklahoma, which defeated Pennsylvania in the Championships finals. Wisconsin is the defending Cadet National Duals Greco-Roman champion, edging Minnesota by winning a tie match by criteria.
