USA Wrestling has awarded the 2009 and 2010 National Schoolboy Dual Meet Championships to Indianapolis, Ind.
This popular event for boys features dual-meet competition between state-level teams in the Olympic styles of the sport, freestyle and Greco-Roman. Schoolboys are athletes who are 13 and 14 years-old.
Indianapolis has served as the host city for the last five National Schoolboy Duals events. All of the 15 past National Schoolboy Duals have been hosted in the state of Indiana.
The event will continue to be hosted at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.
"We are excited. We have ownership of this tournament in our hearts," said Louis Rosbottom, the USA Wrestling state chairperson for Indiana. "Having it stay in Indiana is important to us. We believe this event stands out. We have the people and the facility to make this a premier event for this age group. It is exciting to work with the Schoolboy age division."
The 2009 National Schoolboy Dual Meet Championships will be held June 17-21.
"USA Wrestling is pleased to continue its working relationship with the Indiana State Wrestling Association to host the Schoolboy National Duals," said Pete Isais, National Events Director for USA Wrestling. "This location offers a great venue and a very strong local organizing committee. The Schoolboy National Duals has continued to show growth during its years in Indianapolis."
The Schoolboy National Duals history goes back to 1994, when the Indiana State Wrestling Association began inviting other state teams to participate in a dual meet event for Schoolboys held in Indianapolis. Other cities in the state which have hosted the Schoolboy National Duals are Lebanon and Yorktown.
The defending Schoolboy National Duals champions are Minnesota, which won both the freestyle and Greco-Roman titles in 2008. Minnesota Red defeated Pennsylvania Blue in the championship match in both styles last year.
