Baker University to add men's wrestling, women's bowling

Baldwin City, Kan. - Men's wrestling and women's bowling will be added to Baker University's athletic department starting in fall 2009, increasing the Wildcats' total varsity sports offerings to 21, Baker athletic director Dan Harris has announced.

A head wrestling coach will be hired in fall 2008 to recruit, schedule and market the program throughout the wrestling community.

Baker will become the third four-year university in Kansas and the third school in the Heart of America Athletic Conference to offer wrestling. Fort Hays State and Newman University are the other Kansas schools with wrestling programs. Other HAAC schools with wrestling are Lindenwood and Missouri Valley.

Baker plans to hire a bowling coach in spring 2009.

JOB POSTING

POSITION: Baker University is seeking candidates for the position of Head Wrestling Coach/Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics to establish a new program. The university expects to fill the position by July 1, 2008.

UNIVERSITY AFFILIATION: Baker University is a member of the NAIA and the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC).

DUTIES: Responsibilities associated with the position include - recruitment, retention, and supervision of student-athletes; submitting varsity and junior varsity contests for administrative approval; budget management; selection and supervision of wrestling staff members; and compliance with all NAIA, HAAC, and university policies. The Director of Athletics may assign other duties with approval from the Vice President and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree is preferred. Coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level or its equivalent is preferred.
