There are only two remaining qualifier events for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for wrestling which will take place in May.
The Northern Plains Olympic Regional Trials, to be held in Waterloo, Iowa, will be the only Regional trial that features competition for men and women.
The event, set for May 8-10, 2008, features seven men's and seven women's weight classes, and occurs alongside the Northern Plains Junior Regional Championships. Tickets for the event are $5 per session.
"It should be an outstanding event," event organizer Steve Knipp said. "Usually we have some top level juniors and it is one of the last qualifying events for the Olympic Trials. It should be exciting and there should be some big names too."
Winners in each weight division will earn a berth in the Challenge Tournament at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Las Vegas, Nev., June 13-15 and the chance to be a part of the Olympic team.
The last of four Olympic Regional Trials hosted by USA Wrestling is the Rocky Mountain Regional, which will take place in Pueblo, Colo., May 15-17.
Competition will be held in the seven Olympic weight classes in men's freestyle and Greco-Roman with the winners in each advancing to the Challenge Tournament at the U.S. Olympic Trials for wrestling June 13-15 in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Olympic Regional Trials in Pueblo, Colo. will occur in combination with the Rocky Mountain Junior Regional Championships.
Olympic Regional Trials are open to all competitors who meet the age and citizenship requirements for competition. Athletes must be U.S. citizens. Men 18 years of age and older on or before Dec. 31, 2008 are eligible to enter into the Olympics Trials process. Women 17 years and older on or before Dec. 31, 2008 are also eligible.
The U.S. Olympic Trials for wrestling are set for Las Vegas, Nev., June 13-15 at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of Nevada-Las Vegas. The event will determine which U.S. athlete will compete in each weight class at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
