NCAA Champion and 1976 Olympian Jimmy Jackson passes away

Jimmy Earl Jackson, age 51, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Wednesday, June 17, 2008. His mother Ocie B. Jackson, father Andrew Jackson and sister Cynthia Jackson preceded him in death.

Jackson will by remembered by his wife, Katie; niece, Danielle LaShawn Reilly; step-daughters, Casey and Mia Kempker; four grandchildren; aunt, Judy Perry-Thomas; uncle, Charles (Lee) Perry; very special cousins Avis Brooks, Francine Gaston, LaDale Williams, Guy Williams, Thomas Hampton and Barry Strong and many more relatives and friends.

Jackson graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1974, where he was a member of the wrestling team and won several heavyweight state championships. After graduation he went on to be become an Oklahoma State University Cowboy. While at Oklahoma State, he was a three-time All-American champion at heavyweight, three-time World Cup champion and an inductee into the College Wrestling Hall of Fame. Jackson was also a member of the 1976 Olympic freestyle wrestling team.

Jackson graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration. Jimmy suffered for years with Diabetes, but was never deterred from living life to its fullest. He was a successful entrepreneur owning several businesses throughout his lifetime.

Visitations will be Friday, June 20, 2008 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Brown's Funeral Chapel, 627 Jefferson Ave. SE. A family hour will be June 21, 2008 from 2:30pm to 3:00pm, with services beginning at 3:00pm at Brown's Chapel.
