FARGO, N.D. - 2008 Cadet Nationals champion Mark Grey of New Jersey has already earned a spot in Friday's championship finals at 98 pounds, after an intense second day of action at the Accelerade Cadet National Freestyle Championships at the FargoDome on Thursday.

Grey, who was also a FILA Cadet National freestyle champion this spring, won nine matches during the two days of action in the freestyle division. His opponent in the finals has yet to be determined.

Another athlete who has qualified for the finals by winning the 160B pool is Ronnie Balfour of Oklahoma.

The four 2007 Cadet National champions in the field are alive and still eligible to defend their titles: Hayden Zillmer of Minnesota (91), Carson Kuhn of Utah (105), Hunter Stieber of Ohio (112) and Chris Phillips of Ohio (171).

At 112 pounds, two-time Cadet National Greco-Roman champion champion Jesse Thielke dropped his second match of the tournament, a 0-4, 0-6 match against Evan Silver of Maryland. Thielke will compete in the seventh-place match on Friday. He was also a Cadet freestyle runner-up last year.

The other returning Cadet freestyle runner-up in the field, Andrew Campolattano of New Jersey at 189 pounds, remains unbeaten.

Winning a Cadet Triple Crown, winning USA Wrestling titles in folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman the same year, is a difficult task. Four wrestlers entered the Cadet Freestyle Nationals with a chance at winning a Triple Crown this year. Only two are currently unbeaten: Dylan Ness of Minnesota at 130 pounds and Taylor Massa of Michigan at 140 pounds

There have only been three Cadet Triple Crown winners ever. Previous winners were Hayden Zillmer of Minnesota in 2007, Zach Sanders of Minnesota in 2004 and Taylor Moore of Missouri in 2003.

FILA Cadet champion Simon Kitzis of Massachusetts lost a match at 125 pounds, but his roundrobin is not yet completed.

New Jersey stars Grey and Campolattano were Cadet National Greco-Roman champions on Monday. They are among the seven Greco-Roman champions who are still unbeaten after the first day.

The other Greco-Roman champions without a loss in freestyle today were Nick Roberts of Pennsylvania (84), Cody Brewer of Missouri (105), Mark Havers of Pennsylvania (152), Jahwon Akui of Illinois (160) and Evan Craig of Pennsylvania (285).

After a protest, official re-wrestled the third period of a match at 125 pounds. Initially, Tyrell Galloway of Nebraska won the period 4-2 over Nick Soto of Florida. In the re-wrestle, Soto won the third period and the match, 5-3.
