Steven Beuning of Sauk Center, Minn. has been hired as a National Events Coordinator with USA Wrestling, the national governing body of amateur wrestling in the United States.
Beuning joins the USA Wrestling national staff on January 28. He will work in the National Events Department, helping develop, promote, implement and coordinate the national events program at regional, national and international levels.
Beuning comes to USA Wrestling with extensive education and experience in sports management, with background in professional, college and Olympic sports programs.
"USA Wrestling is blessed to hire someone of Steve's expertise and education," said Pete Isais, USA Wrestling Director of National Events. "His previous experience will compliment his job duties well. We look forward to having him as part of our National Events team."
At North Dakota State University, Beuning worked as Intramural Supervisor for the athletic department, supervising and scheduling all recreational activities for the university. He also served as a marketing department intern within the athletic department, preparing promotions for athletic events and assisting with the Junior Bison Club for kids.
He was a U.S. Olympic Committee intern, working for USA Badminton in 2006. His duties included work within the organization's grassroots, events and membership areas, as well as a wide variety of other assignments for the National Governing Body for badminton.
Beuning also has worked with two minor league baseball teams, serving as a ticket sales assistant for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and a customer service staff member for the Duluth-Superior Dukes.
For three years, he worked as security personnel for USA Wrestling's ASICS/Tiger Junior Nationals and Accelerade Cadet Nationals, held at the FargoDome in Fargo, N.D. Beuning assisted the tournament director with security and event procedures.
He has volunteered with the U.S. Paralympics Military Summit, as well as the Pentathlon U.S. Open and Senior Nationals events, both held in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He worked as a product assistant for Bromen Implement LLC of Sauk Centre, Minn. for the past year. Buening also worked as a bank teller for two different banks in Minnesota.
Buening received his Master's degree in Sports Management from North Dakota State Univ. in December 2006. He attended the Univ. of Minnesota-Duluth as an undergrad, earning a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2004.
"I am extremely excited to join USA Wrestling and to be part of the U.S. Olympic movement," said Beuning. "I look forward to meeting the wrestling community across the nation. I feel privileged to work within a sport which I have always respected. I had an opportunity to serve as a U.S. Olympic Committee intern and set my sights on returning to work for a National Governing Body."
