Beatty scored two important wins over the weekend to help No. 1 Iowa clinch a share of the Big Ten regular season title. Beatty, wrestling at 197, scored his first win of the weekend over Indiana's Joe Fagiano in a 9-7 decision. In Sunday's match against Michigan, the Hawkeyes trailed the Wolverines 16-12 heading into Beatty's match. Iowa needed a victory from Beatty in order to keep the team win a possibility. The sophomore did not disappoint and earned a 2-1 triumph over No. 15 Anthony Biondo. The Hawkeyes are now 20-1 on the season and 7-0 in Big Ten duals. Iowa can win the Big Ten crown outright with a win against Illinois or an Ohio State loss. This is Beatty's first career weekly accolade.

Tanelli was a major contributor in leading Wisconsin to two dual wins over Big Ten opponents this weekend. Against Michigan, the junior won in convincing fashion against Chris Diehl in a major decision, 14-1. Tanelli then faced No. 5 Mack Reiter of Minnesota on Sunday and put the Badgers on the board with a 5-1 win. The Short Hill, N.J. native has 20 wins on the year and four in Big Ten action. This is Tanelli's second career weekly laurel.

Air Force's Kriegbaum honored by Western Wrestling Conference
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Air Force Academy's Jake Kriegbaum has been named the Western Wrestling Conference's Wrestler of the Week as announced by league officials.
Kriegbaum, a senior 141-pounder from Abilene, Kan., went 2-0 over the weekend to lead Air Force in a pair of WWC dual meets. Kriegbaum registered victories over a pair of 20-win wrestlers, first registering a 4-2 decision over North Dakota State's Gabriel Mooney on Friday evening. On Saturday, Kriegbaum picked up a 16-5 major decision over South Dakota State's Adam Everson to help the Falcons to a 26-10 win over the Jackrabbits. Kriegbaum has now won 10 of his last 11 matches and improves to 20-11 overall and 4-0 in the WWC.
The Western Wrestling Conference is comprised of seven schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Utah Valley State and Wyoming.

Duke's Wales honored by ACC
DURHAM, N.C. - Duke redshirt sophomore Ben Wales is the ACC's Wrestler of the Week, announced today by the conference offices in Greensboro, N.C. Wales, a 174-pounder from Otsego, Mich., earned two wins in dual meets last week against ACC-opponent Virginia Tech and VMI. He becomes the second Blue Devil to win the award this season, as redshirt sophomore John Barone won it on Nov. 27, 2007.
In his first weekend bout, against A.J. Johnson of Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon, Wales recorded his third pin of the year, taking out the Hokie wrestler at 6:36 to give the Blue Devils a 15-9 lead at the time in that dual meet matchup. Later in the day, Wales picked up his second win with a 4-1 decision over Dustin McCabe of VMI, as Duke defeated the Keydets, 22-12. Wales is now 19-13 overall this year with a 9-5 dual meet mark and has a 28-24 career record.
The Blue Devils will complete their regular season this week with a road contest at UNC Greensboro on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., and then against Duquesne this Sunday at 4:30 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The 2008 ACC Wrestling Championship will take place on March 8 on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.
Nebraska's Brester honored by Big 12
LINCOLN - The Big 12 Conference announced Monday that Husker sophomore Craig Brester has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his performances in competitions from Feb. 12-18. Brester defeated two ranked foes at 197 pounds last weekend as the Huskers topped Rider 27-12 and No. 16 Hofstra 25-10 on an East Coast trip. Brester, a native of Howells, Neb., is currently ranked seventh in the nation in his weight class.
On Saturday, Brester notched a 9-1 major decision over 12th-ranked T.J. Morrison of Rider to spark NU to victories in three of the final four matches of a tight dual. Brester registered a takedown early in the first period and worked his way to a three-point nearfall to take a 5-0 lead after the opening stanza. An escape and another takedown in the second period put him up 8-1 and boosted him to a 9-1 final score.
Brester followed up with a 10-3 decision over No. 10 Joe Rovelli of Hofstra on Sunday. Brester notched two nearfalls as he held Rovelli scoreless until the third period. The win was Brester's third consecutive against a ranked opponent as he is 6-1 against ranked foes on the year.
Brester improved to 20-3 on the year, including 12-3 in duals. He has scored 50 dual points for NU while allowing just 10. Scoring 33 dual takedowns this year, he has been taken down just nine times. He has six pins, three technical falls and four major decisions.
Brester and the Huskers end their regular season on Feb. 24 in Ames, Iowa, against Iowa State.
