84 kg/185 lbs. - Andy Hrovat (Ann Arbor, Mich./New York AC)
First match - Reineris Salas (Cuba) dec. Andy Hrovat (USA), 0-3, 3-1, 2-2
First period - Cautious sparring early in the period. Hrovat forced the action late in the period, almost causing Salas to step out of bounds. Period ends scoreless. Ball is red. Hrovat secures leg clinch and takes Salas to his back for a three- point takedown, 3-0
Second period - Salas picks up his pace, with numerous faints and quick motion. Hrovat goes upperbody and almost gets Salas out of bounds. Salas secures a leg and gets a takedown with exposure for three points at 1:40. Hrovat gets a quick reversal, 3-1.
Third period - Hrovat gets into a scramble near the edge and scores a pushout on Salas, 1-0. Salas picks up the pace. In final 10 seconds, Hrovat gets a takedown on a low single, and Salas gets a counter exposure for two points as time runs down, 2-2. Salas wins by having the highest point move, the two-point exposure.

Quarterfinals - Bakhtiyar Akhmedov (Russia) dec. Steve Mocco (USA), 0-1, 1-0, 2-0
First period - A lot of tie-ups and pummeling mark the beginning of the period. No athlete gets a serious attack before time runs out. Ball is red. Mocco secures leg clinch, and quickly takes Akhmedov down, 1-0.
Second period - The athletes tie up around the head much of the early part of the period. Once again, no serious shot is taken until Akhmedov tries to reach for a double but is blocked. Ball is red. Mocco takes Akhmedov to his hip but he also grabs Mocco's leg, stopping a takedown. Mocco kicks out and they end on their feet. Ahmedov gets the point for defending the clinch, 1-0.
Third period - On the feet, neither wrestler gains an advantage, mostly tieing up in the middle of the mat. Period ends. Ball is blue. Akhmedov gets the leg, takes down Mocco for two points, 2-0.
Second match - Steve Mocco (USA) dec. Liang Lai (China), 1-0, 3-0
First period - Mocco scored a single leg takedown at 35 seconds, 1-0. Liang picked up the pace later in the period but was unable to get off an attack.
Second period - Mocco scores a spin behind takedown at 34 seconds, 1-0. Liang goes upper body and tries to throw Mocco by, but can not. Liang gets a single, Mocco counters to get behind and pushes Liang out, 1:41, 2-0. Mocco gets a spin behind takedown at 1:55, 3-0
