Bronze-medalist Letts leads U.S. men's freestyle in final day of FILA Junior Worlds

Mike Letts (Parksburg, Penn./College Park WC) finished third at 84 kg/185 to lead the U.S. men's freestyle team Sunday, August 3 at the FILA Junior World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.
Letts beat Aslanbek Alborov of Azerbaijan to capture the bronze medal, the third for the U.S. men's freestyle team.
Letts posted three straight wins over Osama A Elaziz Elsedy of Egypt, Dzmitri Alshevaski of Belarus and Kamil Skaskiewicz of Poland to open the day. He then lost to Beka Tchedlidze of Georgia in the semifinals.
The three other U.S. freestylers finished in the top 10 at their weights. Clayton Jack (Vacaville, Calif./Orange Crush) was 5th at 120 kg/264.5 lbs, Zach Sanders (Wabasha, Minn./Minnesota Storm) was 8th at 55 kg/121 lbs., and Jordan Burroughs (Sicklerville, N.J./Sunkist Kids) was 10th at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.
Jack lost to Nobuyoshi Arakida of Japan in three periods to miss out on a bronze medal.
Sanders failed to work his way through the wrestlebacks after losing to Hassan Rahimi of Iran. He topped Hakan Er of Austria before being beaten to Mykola Aivazian of Ukraine to be eliminated.
Burroughs won his first two matches over Olzhas Chingisbayev of Kazakhstan and Amit Kumar of India before losing to the Sandor Tozser of Hungary.
The U.S. finished fourth in the team standings with 34 points behind Russia (69), Iran (49), and Georgia (41).
The women's freestyle team finished third in the standings and brought home a gold medal as well as three bronze medals. The Greco-Roman team failed to have a wrestler medal.
