USA Wrestling has awarded the 2008 Body Bar Women's National Championships to the city of Colorado Springs, Colo., which will be hosted on May 16-17.
This is the combined age-group national championships for young women wrestlers in the United States in women's freestyle wrestling. This will be the third straight year that the Body Bar Women's National Championships will be hosted in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Hosting the Body Bar Women's Nationals will be Experience Colorado Springs at Pikes Peak, which is the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
"We are very excited about having the Body Bar Women's Wrestling Nationals back in Colorado Springs," said Jean Watson, Manager of Sports and Special Events for Experience Colorado Springs at Pikes Peak. "It is fun to have people come here to compete and for us to help them. It should be a great event once again."
Previous cities to host the combined Body Bar Women Nationals have also included El Cajon, Calif. and St. Joseph, Minn.
National Championships will be held in the FILA Junior division (17-20 years old), FILA Cadet division (15-17 years) and Kids (Grades 3-6, Grades 7-8).
The University division (ages 18-24 years, and high school graduates) will not be held at the Body Bar Nationals this year. The University Women's National Championships have been added to the University National Championships for men, which is set for April 10-13 in Akron, Ohio. The men's and women's University Nationals were held side-by-side from 1998-2002, and then the women's event was moved into the combined Body Bar National Championships.
The location of the venue, as well as the complete schedule for the 2008 Body Bar Women's Nationals, will be announced soon.
"We are pleased with the growth of the Women's Body Bar National Championships since it has been hosted in Colorado Springs," said Pete Isais, USA Wrestling National Events Director. "We anticipate that the event this year will be a big success and continue to improve."
