Four U.S. women claim medals at Clansman International in Canada

Four U.S. women wrestlers claimed medals at the Clansman International Open, held at Burnaby Mountain, B.C., Canada, Nov. 11. Claiming silver medals were Bior Guigni (Preston, Conn./Menlo College) at 51 kg/112.25 pounds and Kaci Lyle (Eureka, Calif./Pacific Univ.) at 68 kg/149.75 pounds. Guigni won her first two matches, an 8-0 win over Desi Lockhart of Pacific and an 11-7 win over Kathlete Takeda of Simon Fraser. She was defeated in the finals by Shannon Briginshaw of Simon Fraser, 9-1. Lyle dominated her first two opponents, scoring a 13-2 technical fall over Ashlea McManus of Simon Fraser and a pin over Tonya Yanish of the Rebels. In the finals, Lyle dropped an 11-1 technical fall to Shannon Samler of Simon Fraser. U.S. wrestlers claiming bronze medals were Kristen Fujioka (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Pacific Univ.) at 46 kg/101.25 lbs. and Danielle Hobeika (Cambridge, Mass./Menlo College) at 51 kg/112.25 pounds. Fukioka had a 2-1 record in the tournament, and Hobeika had a 2-2 record in the competition. Placing fourth was Tela O'Donnell (Homer, Alaska/Pacific Univ.) at 56 kg/123.25 lbs. O'Donnell had a 2-2 record in the meet, including a 12-2 loss in her final match to Melissa Kindrasky of UCWC.
