Iran defeats Uzbekistan 26-6 in the final session of the 2001 World Cup

Iran won all eight of the bouts to defeat Uzbekistan 26-6 in the final session of the 2001 World Cup. At 119 pounds, 1998 World bronze medalist Golam Reza Mohammadi decisioned Adkham Achilov, 4-2. Massoud Mostafa Gokar decisioned Dilshod Mansurov of Uzbekistan, 5-2, to add three points for the Iranian team. 2000 Olympic champion Ali Reza Dabir of Iran decisioned Damir Zakhartdinov at 138.75 pounds, 4-1. The win clinched the individual title for Dabir. Dabir won the 2000 World Cup title at 127.75 pounds. At 152 pounds, Mehdi Baraati kept the ball rolling for Iran with a 3-1 decision over Tulkin Buronov. Mehdi Akbarnedjad then scored a 5-1 decision over Khurshid Khaldarov to bring the team score to 15-5 in favor of Iran. 1998 World champion Ali Reza Heidari won by injury default over Rasul Katinovossov at 213.75 pounds to claim his third World Cup title. At 286 pounds, Ebrahim Mehraban of Iran won by a technical fall over Ruslan Utegenov, 10-0 to put the final team score to 26-6 in favor of Iran.
