Pitt's Matt Wilps named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week

Matt Wilps (Oakdale, Pa./University of Pittsburgh) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
The second-ranked Wilps earned a 7-2 decision over No. 13 Christian Boley at 197 pounds to clinch No. 13 Pittsburgh's 23-12 win over No. 17 Maryland on Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Wilps' brother, Tyler, who is ranked 11th nationally, won by technical fall at 165 in the win over Maryland.
Matt Wilps, a senior, placed fourth at the 2012 NCAA Championships in St. Louis. He finished with a 34-5 record during the 2011-12 season.
Wilps is a two-time NCAA qualifier and a two-time Eastern Wrestling League champion.
