Adam Wheeler (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for August 12-18.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Wheeler captures a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. He is a Greco-Roman wrestler at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Wheeler defeated Han Tae-Young of Korea in the bronze medal match, 3-1, 4-1. It was the first medal won by the United States in wrestling at the Beijing Games.

Wheeler won his first two matches, then was defeated in the semifinals by Mirko Englich of Germany, which placed him into the bronze-medal match. He is competing on his first U.S. Senior World-level team after a number of years on the national scene.

Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
