Vito Arujau (Ithaca, N.Y./Spartan Combat RTC/Titan Mercury WC) has been named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week.
2023 World champion Arujau kicked off RAF Moscow with a 13-3 victory over 2016 Olympic champion Soslan Ramonov of Russia. Arujau’s victory kicked off the first of eight Americans to collect victories at the first RAF event outside of the U.S.
Arujau made his Real American Freestyle debut over the weekend and scored three takedowns against Ramonov without surrendering one. Before securing the technical fall in the third period, Arujau broke a 2-2 tie with a seven-point second period to break the match open.
Along with his 2023 World title, Arujau won World bronze in 2024 and is a two-time age-group World medalist.
This season, Arujau claimed bronze at the Muhamet Malo Ranking Series in Tirana, Albania, in February.
