Four U.S. Greco-Roman Athletes to Compete at Valamar Cup in Croatia

A quartet of U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers is set to compete at the Third Valamar Cup in Poreč, Croatia, at Sport Hall Findia, September 19-20.

2021 Senior World Team member Jesse Porter, Jr. and 2026 National Team member Fritz Schierl lead Team USA into Croatia next week. The duo of Porter and Schierl will both represent the U.S. at 82 kg.

Heading into the Valamar Cup, Porter won the gold medal at the Thor Masters in March and also posted a top-10 finish at the final UWW Ranking Series event of the season in Budapest, Hungary. Schierl also competed at the Thor Masters in Denmark, where he finished with the bronze medal.

Keenan Wyatt (87 kg) and Dominic Damon (67 kg) round out the U.S. roster at the Valamar Cup. Wyatt rolled to the gold medal in his first international appearance of the year at the U23 Pan American Championship. Damon is a two-time age-group World Team member, and he also earned bronze at the 2021 U20 Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia.

Each of the four took part in the 2026 Greco-Roman World Team Trials at the U.S. Open in April. Schierl finished as the runner-up at 82 kg with Porter placing fifth in the weight class. Wyatt earned a seventh-place finish at 87 kg, and Damon bowed out of title contention in the round of 16 at 72 kg, finishing 3-2 in the tournament.

Action at the Valamar Cup also includes women’s freestyle, but the U.S. will not have any competitors in the field.

Competition gets underway on Saturday, September 19 at 10 a.m. local time, when Damon will be the only U.S. competitor in action. The tournament concludes on Sunday, September 20, with Porter, Schierl and Wyatt taking the mat.
