Amanda Martinez (Riverside, Ill./Cardinal WC/Titan Mercury WC) has been named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week.
Martinez won gold at the Poland Open this past weekend in Warsaw after going 4-0. Her victories were bookended by shutout technical falls.
Opening the tournament, Martinez rolled to a 10-0 victory over three-time age-group World medalist Gerda Terek of Hungary. She then won by criteria against 2026 World University champion Mia Friesen of Canada in a tight 5-5 battle.
Martinez continued her unbeaten run after a 9-6 victory over two-time age-group World medalist Magdalena Glodek Liszewska of Poland.
Facing her second-straight foe from host Poland in the gold medal match, Martinez powered past 2024 Olympian and 2022 World bronze medalist Anhelina Pacurkowska in an 11-0 match.
In five international appearances this season, Martinez has medaled at each. Along with winning gold this past weekend, she also won gold at the Pan American Championships in Coralville, Iowa, in May. Martinez captured bronze at each of her three UWW Ranking Series appearances.
