Gonzales, Gallegos, Errthum, Wieser Pin in Quarterfinals at Senior World Team Trials

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A quartet of pins headlined the women’s freestyle quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at the 2026 Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament at Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.

Precious Wieser notched the fastest pin of the four with a 27-second pin in her quarterfinal match against Latifah McBryde at 72 kg. Hanna Errthum also ended her match in the first minute following a 57-second pin of Aine Drury in the 62 kg quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Wieser takes on Skylar Grote and Errthum faces two-time World medalist Macey Kilty. Grote posted one of the few upsets in the quarterfinals as the No. 6 seed and she outlasted third-seeded Jasmine Robinson, 6-2.

At 72 kg, Errthum faces Olympic champion Amit Elor, who scored a 10-0 technical fall in her to return to the mat. Elor was the lone No. 1 seed in action during the opening session of the event.

Isabella Marie Gonzales and Marissa Gallegos both recorded second-period pins. At 53 kg, Gonzales pinned Vayle Baker with 45 seconds left in the match, while Gallegos pinned Mateah Roehl at the 4:29 mark in their 55 kg contest.

Gonzales battles top-seeded Elena Ivaldi in the semifinals, and Gallegos squares off against Alexandra Hedrick this afternoon.

There were no major upsets in the morning session, which sets up a full slate of elite matches in the semifinal round.

The remaining top seeds that had quarterfinal byes included Erin Golston (50 kg), Areana Villaescusa (55 kg), Michaela Beck (59 kg) and Emma Bruntil (65 kg).

Two-time age-group World medalist Golston takes on two-time age-group World champion Morgan Turner in the semifinals. 2024 World Team member Villaescusa faces Sara Sterner. Beck battles two-time age-group World medalist Amani Jones, and 2023 World Team member Bruntil goes up against Katerina Lange.

The Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament continues this afternoon at 4 p.m. ET with semifinal matches. Championship bouts are slated to take place on Friday.
