Kylie Welker (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa Women’s WC/Titan Mercury WC) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on May 13, 2026.
Welker won the gold medal in the 76 kg women’s freestyle division and was conferred with the Golden Boot Award at the 2026 Senior Pan American Championships in Coralville, Iowa. On her path to gold, she defeated both bronze medalists from the 2024 Olympic Games and pinned the reigning World Champion in the gold medal match.
Across three matches, Welker never conceded a point and earned one technical fall and two pins. She scored an 11-0 victory over Colombia’s Olympic bronze medalist, Tatiana Renteria, in the quarterfinals and finished the match with a quad pod finish and a pair of gutwrenches.
In the semifinals, she faced Cuba’s Olympic bronze medalist, Milaimy Marin Potrille, and quickly built a 3-0 lead heading into the break. Welker added four points early in the final period before closing the match with a bar arm finish and a pin at the 4:41 mark.
Welker then matched up with the reigning World champion, Genesis Reasco Valdez of Ecuador, in the finals. Valdez was placed on the shot clock towards the end of the opening period, and Welker was awarded a 1-0 lead before the intermission. Welker was put on the clock with 2:33 remaining and responded with an overhook toss, setting up a pin of the Colombian at the 4:20 mark.
The two-time Senior World bronze medalist is now a two-time Senior Pan American Championships gold-medal winner. Welker was named the outstanding wrestler of the women’s freestyle division and helped the U.S. earn 235 points to claim the team title. She is a three-time age-group World champion for Team USA and a three-time women’s college national champion for Iowa.
Welker will be in action June 19 at 2026 Final X, presented by Kerberos Capital Management, as she attempts to make her third-straight Senior World Team.
