Peak adds Greco-Roman gold, Young bronze, U.S. wins team title at Pan American Championships

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Benji Peak and Timothy Young added a pair of Greco-Roman medals to the U.S. count on Friday evening at the 2026 Pan American Championships, solidifying Team USA’s place atop the team standings.

Peak picked up the gold medal at 72 kg courtesy of two wins in a three-man round-robin bracket. He scored an 8-0 technical fall over Mauri Vicente Silverio Junior of Brazil, before edging Emerson Felipe Ordonez of Guatemala, 4-2.

Peak became the seventh American to win gold in Greco-Roman this week. Topping the medal stand yesterday in Greco-Roman group one were Max Nowry at 55 kg, Landon Drury at 63 kg, Joel Adams at 77 kg, Kamal Bey at 82 kg, Beka Melelashvili at 87 kg and Cohlton Schultz at 130 kg.

Young rebounded from a tough semifinal loss at the hands of Cuba’s former World champion and Olympic bronze medalist Gabriel Rosillo Kindelan to secure a bronze medal at 97 kg. Young separated himself from Jhonny Arias Berdugo of Colombia in the bronze medal match with multiple scores from top, finishing with a 7-2 decision.

Rosillo Kindelan was presented the Golden Boot Award as the outstanding wrestler of the Greco-Roman division.

The U.S. breezed to the team title with seven champions, a silver medalist and a bronze medalist, amassing 216 team points. Cuba finished in second place with 115 team points, and Brazil came in third place with 99 team points.

The tournament continues on Saturday with women’s freestyle group two (53-59-65-76 kg) and men’s freestyle group one (61-74-86 kg), with the action starting at 10 a.m. (CT). Entered for the U.S. are Cristelle Rodriguez, Abigail Nette, Kayla Miracle and Kylie Welker in women’s freestyle, plus Austin DeSanto, Kannon Webster and Zahid Valencia in men’s freestyle.
