Maryland is presented with the team title after winning the Greco-Roman division at the 2026 14U National Duals
WESLEY CHAPEL, Florida – Maryland stormed through the bracket to capture the Greco-Roman team title on Wednesday, edging Minnesota, 40-33, in a dramatic championship dual at the 2026 14U National Duals in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
Maryland opened the tournament on Tuesday with three straight wins to claim Pool B. On Wednesday, after a narrow 38-36 setback to Pennsylvania Blue in the opening round of the Gold/Silver pool, Maryland regrouped and rattled off wins over Washington, California Gold and, finally, Minnesota to secure the championship.
In the title dual, Maryland came out firing. Korban Kiessling (88) set the tone with a pin in the opening bout, earning five team points and jumpstarting the lineup. Luke Briggs (92) and Edward Encarnacion III (100) followed with wins to build a 14-4 advantage after four matches. Minnesota, however, responded with a surge of its own and battled back to tie the score at 15-15 heading into match eight.
Maryland answered with a big swing in the middle of the lineup. Esaias Perez (120) and Justin Wildy, Jr. (126) delivered back-to-back pins in matches eight and nine, flipping the momentum and setting up Brody Clemons (132) to grind out a 3-2 decision in match 10. Minnesota refused to go away, claiming three straight wins from Nolan Meisch (140), Thomas Snyder (155) and Luke Kelly (175) to knot the dual at 29-29 with four bouts remaining.
Down the stretch, Maryland found just enough. Luca Wynn (225) and Declan Solito (80) each earned clutch decisions in two of the next three matches, giving Maryland a slim lead and setting the stage for a winner-take-all finale.
The decisive 84-pound matchup featured Ethan Encarnacion (Maryland) against Eli Richter (Minnesota). After a scoreless opening 90 seconds, Encarnacion broke through with a takedown and gutwrench to grab a 4-0 lead. With 30 seconds left in the first period, he struck again, hitting a slick duck-under for another takedown and converting a second gutwrench to close out an 8-0 technical fall and lock up the team title for Maryland.
In the third-place dual, California Gold rolled past Wisconsin, 56-20. California Gold notched pins in two of the first three bouts to seize early control and never looked back, piling up bonus points throughout the lineup.
The fifth-place dual was decided by the slimmest of margins, as Michigan Blue edged Pennsylvania Blue, 38-36. Michigan Blue recorded technical falls in five of its nine victories, and Xavier Ruffin’s 12-5 decision at 75 pounds ultimately provided the cushion needed to secure fifth place.
Illinois closed out the Gold/Silver pool in seventh with a 41-37 win over Washington, highlighted by pins from Luke Sponsel (96) and Gaelle Cid (115).
Greco-Roman competition wrapped up on Wednesday, but the 2026 14U National Duals continues on Thursday with men’s freestyle beginning at 8 a.m. ET. Pennsylvania Blue enters freestyle as the three-time defending team champion. A complete schedule for Thursday and Friday is available at usawrestlingevents.com.
