Keegan Demarest competing for Messiah University

Keegan Demarest (Tannersville, Pa./Messiah University) has been named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week.


Demarest won gold in the Senior division at the Pat Shaw Memorial in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He went 3-0 at 79 kg, with each victory coming by technical fall. Demarest outscored his opponents 32-1.


In his opening round match, Demarest notched a 12-1 win over Ryan Maldonado Santos of Puerto Rico just 2:40 into the contest. During the semifinals, Demarest needed just 1:28 to secure a 10-0 technical fall over Cuba’s Guillermo Pol Mola.


The lone match Demarest was pushed into the second period was during the championship bout against reigning Pat Shaw Memorial champion Angel Catalan Martinez of Guatemala. Demarest locked in his gold medal with a 10-0 at 3:58 into the match.


For Messiah University this season, Demarest earned All-American honors following a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Demarest was the 2026 NCAA Division III award winner for most technical falls after notching 32 in 112:43.


In two seasons at Messiah, he has compiled an overall record of 96-10. As a freshman, he finished with a record of 43-8 and finished as Middle Atlantic Conference runner-up. This season, he compiled a 53-2 mark, claiming the MAC title at 165 pounds.
