U.S. women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman teams secure three more medals on day four of Hungary Ranking Series event

BUDAPEST, Hungary – The U.S. added three more medals on day four of the Polyák Imre, Varga János & Kozma István Memorial Ranking Series event on Saturday in Budapest, Hungary. Dymond Guilford and Amanda Martinez earned podium spots in women’s freestyle, while Beka Melelashvili clinched a medal in Greco-Roman.
Guilford’s undefeated tournament run ended by the narrowest of margins against India’s Kajal in the 76 kg final. Guilford led 2-0 for most of the match, but after being placed on the activity clock, her lead was cut to 2-1 with just under 90 seconds to go. Kajal scored a late takedown with 21 seconds remaining to move ahead 3-2. Guilford forced a step-out in the closing seconds to tie it 3-3, but Kajal held the criteria for the win.
Guilford finished 3-1 on the day for the silver medal, her second podium finish in the 2026 international ranking series.
At 57 kg, Martinez closed the women’s freestyle session with a bronze medal, defeating Brazil’s Giullia Penalber, 6-4. After conceding a passivity point in the first period, Martinez trailed heading into the final three minutes. She surged ahead with five points on two takedowns and a step-out, and a lost Brazilian challenge provided the final point for Martinez.
Martinez went 3-1 in Budapest to secure her fourth international medal and third Ranking Series bronze of 2026.
In Greco-Roman, Melelashvili claimed bronze at 87 kg with a 5-3 victory over Croatia’s Matej Mandic. Melelashvili scored a takedown in the first period and extended his lead to 5-1 before fending off Mandic’s par terre offense and reversing with 90 seconds remaining. He withstood a late charge by Mandic, staying composed in the center to close out the match.
The result capped a 4-1 day for Melelashvili, who earned his second international medal of the year and his first at a 2026 Ranking Series event.
At 53 kg, Cristelle Rodriguez narrowly missed the podium, dropping the bronze-medal match to China’s Jin Zhang, 5-2.
The U.S. women’s freestyle team finished second in the team standings with 120 points, trailing India’s 152. Reese Larramendy won the lone U.S. gold, helping her nation close women’s freestyle competition with five total medals—one gold, three silver and one bronze.
Greco-Roman competition concludes Sunday, starting at 10:30 a.m. local time/4:30 a.m. ET. Ten U.S. wrestlers are scheduled to compete, including Max Nowry and Brady Koontz at 55 kg; Dalton Roberts and Jace Koelzer at 60 kg; Xavier Johnson at 63 kg; Jesse Porter at 82 kg; Timothy Young and Arian Khosravy at 97 kg; and Cohlton Schultz and Aden Attao at 130 kg.
