Day 6 Preview: 8 Must-Watch Matches, 3 Triple Crown Bids, Greco-Roman Finals Take Shape

FARGO, N.D. – The mid-week Greco-Roman competition wraps up on Wednesday at the FARGODOME, after a blistering two days of wrestling. Much is on the line with five returning champions seeking repeats, eight freestyle champions looking for the double, and three Triple Crown hopefuls attempting to pass the final hurdle.

The Junior and 16U divisions will compete side-by-side on Wednesday, starting at 9 a.m. (CT) with the remaining round-of-16 bouts, followed directly by the quarterfinals and semifinals. The finals are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CT).

Here are eight pivotal early session matches to keep an eye on:

• Smith: 2025 16U Greco-Roman - 1st at 165 lbs.
• Haines: 2024 Junior Greco-Roman - 6th at 150 lbs.

• Craft: 2024 Junior Greco-Roman - 1st at 106 lbs.
• DeLoach: 2025 Junior Greco-Roman - 7th at 113 lbs.
• Notes: DeLoach beat Craft in the blood round in 2025. DeLoach was first in Fargo representing Guam in 2023.

• Rundell: 2024 Junior Greco-Roman - 1st at 100 lbs., 2025 U17 World bronze medalist at 48 kg
• Friederichs: 2025 Junior Greco-Roman - 2nd at 120 lbs.

• Webber: 2024 16U Greco-Roman - 1st at 100 lbs., 2023 16U Greco-Roman - 1st at 88 lbs., 2024 U17 World Team member
• Dominguez: 2025 Junior Greco-Roman - 7th at 120 lbs., 2024 16U Greco-Roman - 7th at 106 lbs., 2026 U20 Adriatic Trophy (Croatia) silver medalist

• Nevils: 2025 16U Greco-Roman - 2nd at 132 lbs.
• Orbeta: 2024 16U Greco-Roman - 1st at 126 lbs.

Five of the six returning in-division champions made it to day two of the Greco-Roman tournament unscathed. In the Junior division, Kaleb Pratt of Illinois (132) and Wyatt Medlin of Illinois (157) earned quarterfinal berths with four technical falls apiece. On the 16U side, Miro Parr-Coffin of Washington (106), Diego Robertty of Iowa (120) and Ryder Owen of Washington (132) booked spots in the quarterfinals.

The lone returning champion to go down on Tuesday was Vincent DeMarco of Illinois (113). He dropped a 12-10 match to Austin Hayes of Maryland in the round-of-16 and will have to win six consolation matches to come back for third place.

A pair of Junior freestyle champions stayed in the mix for a double Fargo title, both from Iowa—Ty Martin at 106 pounds and Waylon Cressell at 190 pounds. Six 16U freestyle champions remain undefeated in Greco-Roman—Cyrus Millage of Iowa (100), Jaimon Mogard of Iowa (157), Layden Acevedo (175) and Bryce Collins (190) of Pennsylvania, Kade Splinter of Wisconsin (215) and Sawyer Schendel of Minnesota (285).

The USA Wrestling Triple Crown watch continues. All three athletes who started the day with hopes of achieving one of the top honors in youth wrestling are still in the hunt.

Much is left to be decided in the team race. On the Junior side, Illinois holds the edge with 32 wrestlers left in the tournament, the most of any state. California, which won the Junior freestyle team title, sits at 26. Iowa rounds out the top three with 21. Illinois also leads on the 16U side with 44 wrestlers still in the field. Pennsylvania slots in second place with 30 and Iowa rounds out the top three with 27.

Team points are awarded based only on placement to the top eight wrestlers in each weight class (1st: 25, 2nd: 20, 3rd: 15, 4th: 12, 5th: 9, 6th: 7, 7th: 5, 8th: 2). There are no advancement points or bonus points in this scoring model.
