Amanda Martinez leads three U.S. medalists with gold on day two of Poland Open

WARSAW, Poland – Amanda Martinez captured a gold medal for the U.S. women’s freestyle team Friday at the 2026 Poland Open. Macey Kilty and Nina Makem earned silver medals for the U.S. contingent, which claimed top-10 finishes from six of its nine wrestlers.
Martinez was unbeaten in her four 57 kg matches, highlighted by an 11-0 technical fall in the gold-medal match against Anhelina Pacurkowska of Poland, a 2024 Olympian and 2022 World bronze medalist. She scored two four-point moves to take an 8-0 lead in the opening period against Pacurkowska, then closed the match with a takedown in the final two minutes. Pacurkowska’s corner challenged the final sequence but lost, providing Martinez with an additional point.
In her preliminary matches, Martinez clinched a 10-0 win over three-time age-group World medalist Gerda Terek of Hungary, a 5-5 criteria decision over Mia Friesen of Canada, and a 9-6 win over 2026 European champion Magdalena Glodek Liszewska of Poland.
At 62 kg, Kilty advanced through her first three matches with two technical fall shutouts and a 10-2 decision. In her opener, she cruised to a 10-0 victory over 2024 Olympian Johanna Lindborg of Sweden, scoring six points in the final two minutes. Kilty downed Alice Voivodeship of Poland, 10-2, and Naemi Leistner of Germany, 10-0, to reach the gold-medal match, where she was defeated 6-1 by 2022 World bronze medalist Ilona Prokopevniuk of Ukraine.
Makem secured the final U.S. medal of the day in the 65 kg bracket, finishing with a 2-1 record. In round one, she battled to a 6-5 victory over 2026 Pan American bronze medalist Virginia Jimenez Fernandez of Chile. Makem then earned a 9-7 decision over Agnes Nygren of Sweden before suffering a 10-0 loss to Solomia Vynnyk of Ukraine, a two-time U23 World champion.
Jennifer Page finished her tournament with a 2-2 record at 65 kg. She opened the day with a pin over Anne Nuernberger of Germany and a 6-4 decision over Elma Zeidlere of Latvia, before suffering an 8-1 loss to Vynnyk. In a tight bronze-medal match, Page was pinned by Jimenez Fernandez with five seconds left.
Also competing for the U.S. on Friday were Sara Sterner (57 kg), Alara Boyd (62 kg), Marilyn Garcia (65 kg), Solin Piearcy (68 kg) and Noelle Gaffney (68 kg). Sterner and Boyd provided top-10 finishes—Sterner in seventh and Boyd in 10th.
Women’s freestyle competition continues Saturday at the Poland Open with the 72 kg and 76 kg brackets, while men’s freestyle begins with the 86 kg, 92 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg weight classes. The U.S. will have three women’s competitors and 11 men’s wrestlers in action on Saturday. Qualification rounds, repechage, semifinals and medal matches in each weight class will be contested throughout the day.
