2026 U20 World Championships Day Six Match Notes

: Isaiah Cortez works for a takedown at the 2026 U20 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio.
The 2026 U20 World Championships continue on Friday from A4 Studio in Bratislava, Slovakia. Today will feature women’s freestyle group three (57-59-68 kg) and men’s freestyle group one (61-86 kg) repechage and medal matches, plus men’s freestyle group two (57-65-79-92 kg) qualification rounds and semifinals. Updates and results from each Team USA match can be found below.
10 a.m. – Qualification Rounds (MFS 57-65-79-92 kg), Repechage (WFS 57-59-68 kg, MFS 61-86 kg)
5 p.m. – Semifinals (MFS 57-65-79-92 kg)
6 p.m. – Medal Matches (WFS 57-59-68 kg, MFS 61-86 kg)

Cortez warned for passivity at 4:39. Cortez on the shot clock at 4:07. Point to Rashidov off the shot clock. Rashidov warned for passivity at 3:17. It’s 1-0 Rashidov at the break. A quick counter-attack for Cortez, right into a gutwrench, and he takes a 4-1 lead at 2:31. Single leg from Rashidov, limp knee from Cortez. The official calls it up at 0:39. Rashidov works for a single leg and gets the takedown this time with 10 seconds left. Cortez holds strong underneath to get the 4-3 win.
Takedown Umarov off a Bassett shot attempt at the 5:30 mark. Snapdown, go-behind, and Bassett catches Umarov on his back as he was chasing the takedown and gets the pin at 4:33.
Gharehdaghi warned for passivity at 4:56. Gharehdaghi goes on the shot clock at 4:22. Point to Burton on the shot clock, 1-0. Burton warned for passivity at 3:23. It’s 1-0 Burton at the break. Single leg Burton, barrel roll Gharehdaghi, Burton comes out on top with exposure to lead 3-2 at 2:37. Gharehdaghi challenges the call, claiming he didn’t expose. The challenge is won, bringing the score back to 2-2. Gharehdaghi holds criteria. Burton is close to scoring a step-out from a front headlock at 1:11, but Gharehdaghi stays in bounds. Burton pushes the pace in his final spring, circles behind to a quad pod position, pulls Gharehdaghi over the top as time runs out. Tricky call here, but the officials go two points Gharehdaghi. The U.S. corner challenges the call. This will decide the match. The call stands, point to Gharehdaghi, and Burton drops the match, 5-2.
Wang keeps the arm as she shoots underneath, tipping Brooks to her back. Wang adds a series of gutwrenches to take a 6-0 lead. Back to standing at 4:24. Wang puts Brooks to her back again with a similar dump from the neutral position. She gets the pin with four seconds left in the period.
WFS 59 kg Bronze Medal Match – Caley Graber (United States) fall Gundegmaa Enkhbaatar (Mongolia), 4:45
Enkhbaatar is the board first with a takedown from Graber’s attack. Blood time for Graber at 5:12. The score is 2-0 Enkhbaatar. Single leg for Graber, has to work hard for it underneath, but finds a way to score the takedown, 2-2 at 4:31. Graber drives a single leg off the mat for a step out at 3:54 to take the 3-2 lead. Graber is up 3-2 at the break. Single leg, cutback finish for Graber 15 seconds into the second period. Looks like she got some exposure on that as well, now up 7-2 at 2:31. The Mongolia corner is challenging the call. The call stands, and Graber gets an additional point. Graber is rolled through on a single-leg attempt, gives up two, but gets around for one point on the reversal. She goes to a bar arm and gets the pin at 1:15.
WFS 68 kg Bronze Medal Match – Taina Fernandez (United States) dec. Evangeliia Berezhnova (Russia), 4-0
Front headlock snap, go-behind for Fernandez at 5:18 to take the early 2-0 lead. Berezhnova warned for passivity at 4:35. Fernandez working the front headlock again, goes behind for her second score at 3:19. It’s 4-0 Fernandez at the break. Not much action in the second period. Fernandez holds her ground and is never threatened by Berezhnova. Fernandez wins 4-0.
Assambek warned for passivity at 5:08. Assambek goes on the shot clock at 4:36. Shot clock point on the board for Seidel, 1-0. Seidel chases down a single leg. He’s unable to finish, but does avoid giving up a passivity warning. It’s 1-0 Seidel at the break. Assambek counters a Seidel shot attempt, nearly drives him out. It’s a Houdini act from Seidel not to step out. Instead, he reverses the action to get the step out himself. Seidel leads 2-0 at 2:40. He did it again. Crafty work on the edge for a counter throw by takedown after nearly giving up a step-out. Seidel is up 4-0 at 2:08. Kazakhstan will challenge this one. The call stands, and Seidel gets another point, 5-0. Seidel throws an underhook by for a takedown at 0:35. Seidel takes the gold with a 7-0 decision.
Sinclair warned for passivity at 5:48. Mukutov launches Sinclair with an overhook trip for four points at 4:53. Single leg attack for Sinclair, he lifts Mukutov off the mat and runs out of bounds, attempting to jump over the top while looking for some extra exposure. The sequence is scored two for Sinclair, 4-2 at 3:36. Russia challenges the call. The call is reversed to a step out only. Mukutov leads 4-1. Sinclair snatches a single leg with 15 seconds left in the period to cut the lead to 4-3 heading into the break. Single leg Sinclair, he lifts the ankle to chest height, runs Mukutov off the mat for a step out. Mukutov had his hand gripped on Sinclair’s throat during the exchange and is dinged with a caution and one. It’s 5-4 Sinclair at 2:49. Elbow pass to a single leg, backside trip for Sinclair, making it 7-4 at 2:09. The scoreboard says 6-4, so it must have been confirmed as just one point step out for Sinclair. Sinclair with another takedown at the 17-second mark. Mukutov tried a desperation backflip on the single leg to no avail. Sinclair takes the match 8-4.
Jeljeli warned for passivity at 5:06. Brooks warned for passivity at 4:41. Brooks put on the shot clock at 4:17. A double-leg takedown for Brooks nullifies the shot clock at 3:56. Jeljeli comes back with a snapdown, bull rush finish at 3:29 to tie it up 2-2, which stands until the break. Single leg for Brooks, opposite side for the cutback finish, while Jeljeli also looks for a barrel roll. It’s scored two points for Brooks, giving her a 4-2 lead at 2:04. The officials are conferring on the exchange, but no change. Re-shot takedown Brooks off a Jeljeli shot attempt at 1:30, 6-2. Jeljeli dives in on a single leg, Brooks tries to catch the far-side ankle, but gives up the takedown. It’s 6-4 Brooks with 30 seconds to go. Outside shot from Jeljeli, Brooks feeds hips and covers as the clock runs out.
Samsonsen warned for passivity at 4:53. Samsonsen goes on the shot clock at 4:24 in a scoreless match. Point to Fernandez from the shot clock to take the 1-0 lead. Fernandez warned for passivity at 3:32. Samsonsen takes her first shot, Fernandez runs behind from the front to get the takedown. It’s 3-0 Fernandez at the break. Re-attack single leg score for Fernandez at 2:35 to go up 5-0. Fernandez with another go-behind from a Samsonsen shot attempt, 7-0. Rinse and repeat—Fernandez’s forward pressure forces an errant shot and a go-behind finish. She ends the match by stuffing a double leg and circling behind at 0:17, getting the 11-0 win.
Knee-pull single for Bassett, drives through the finish, then jumps over the top with a leg bundle to add an exposure going out of bounds. It’s 4-0 Bassett early. Basset with heavy snaps, front headlock, go behind to a single leg lift, run off the mat for a step out. 5-0 Bassett at 5:15. Clean knee-pull single leg finish at 4:40, 7-0 Bassett. He adds a gutwrench up to 9-0 at 4:26. Post, knee-pull single leg once more for Bassett ends it 11-0 at 4:16.
Chernakov warned for passivity at 4:57. Chernakov put on the shot clock at 4:34. Mastny takes a high-c attempt, gets caught underneath, stalemate. Point to Mastny from the shot clock. Mastny warned for passivity at 3:29. 1-0 Mastny at the break. Mastny goes on the shot clock at 2:31. Mastny snaps, chases single leg, gets overextended underneath again, but holds Chernakov off. The shot clock expires, and we are tied, 1-1. A misdirection single leg lands for Mastny, plus a gutwrench going out of bounds to lead 5-1 at 1:39. Snap to a low-level single leg, Mastny converts for a 7-1 lead. Bulgaria is challenging, looking for some neutral exposure points. The score is swapped to a 2-1 exchange in favor of Chernakov, making it 6-3 Mastny with 1:23 to go. Mastny rides it out for a 6-3 win.
A knee-pull single leg for Bassett to a step out, 1-0 early. Bassett right back in on the legs, off the whistle. He splits the legs and works for the fall with a claw finish at 5:19.
Single leg Cortez, catches a far-side flanker to finish, 2-0 early. Wang reaches back and exposes Cortez with a headlock for two. Cortez reverses it for a point. It’s 3-2 Cortez at 4:50. Snap and chase for Cortez to go up 5-2. He adds a crafty turn from a tight waist-claw ride, 7-2 Cortez. A single leg with exposure points bumps the lead to 11-2. Cortez steps over with a bundle and finishes it by technical fall, 13-2 at 3:19.
Margvelidze warned for passivity at 4:53. Margvelidze put on the shot clock at 4:20. Point to Burton from the shot clock. Burton warned for passivity at 3:27. It’s 1-0 Burton at the break.A re-attack single leg for Burton, the action goes out of bounds, point to Burton, 2-0, early in the second. Snap, go behind Burton with two minutes left to take a 4-0 lead. Another Burton snap, go-behind makes it 6-0 at 1:16. Injury time for Margvelidze stops the match. Margvelidze dives in, heavy hips Burton, brought back standing at 1:00. It’s apparent Margvelidze doesn’t have much left in the tank. Burton finishes it with snapdown to the back for a pin at 0:47.
Arm throw for Kurashvili at 5:50 to take the early 4-0 advantage. Mastny gives up a re-attack single leg at 3:16. It’s 6-0 Kurashvili at the break. Head outside single leg attempt for Mastny, caught underneath, no points. Fresh start at 2:15. Single leg, out the back door for Kurashvili, Mastny holds on to the ankle and forces a stoppage. Halfway through the period and still 6-0 Kurashvili. Mastny keeps getting stuck underneath in a front headlock, losing valuable time. Single-leg takedown for Mastny at 0:12, but it won’t be enough. 6-2 Kurashvili final.
Outside single leg for Bassett, gets in deep, Zade circles out. Zade converts the first takedown at 5:32. Bassett comes right back to even the match 2-2 with a knee-pull single leg. Bassett in deep on another single leg, head outside, transitions to a double, lifts on the edge for four points. It’s 6-2 Bassett at 4:54, and Zade is challenging the call. Add a point to Bassett’s total from a lost challenge. Bassett drives a step out at 4:44 to go up 8-2. Snapdown, go-behind, gutwrench times two, and it’s over. Bassett wins 12-2 in just over a minute.
Cortez low-level single-leg attack, gets in deep, but can’t finish. Assambek warned for passivity at 5:04. Cortez warned for passivity at 4:44. Assambek goes on the shot clock at 4:06. Cortez swoops in on a low-level, gathers the legs and scores, 2-0. The shot clock expires, and it’s 3-0 Cortez at 3:36. The period ends. Swing single for Cortez, he lifts the leg and gathers going out of bounds to lead 5-0 at 2:36. Injury stoppage for Assambek at 1:43. Cortez drives Assambek off the mat, clearly wearing on him now. Cortez takes it 6-0.
Kalyakhmet warned for passivity at 5:07. Kalyakhmet put on the shot clock at 4:37. Point to Burton from the shot clock. Burton warned for passivity at 3:24. It’s 1-0 Burton at the break. Single leg, lift and takedown for Burton 10 seconds into the second period. It’s still 3-0 with one minute to go. Burton steps out with five seconds left. It’s a 3-1 final for Burton.
