Turner, Whiting make repechage in women’s freestyle at U20 World Championships

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – A pair of Americans have new life at the 2026 U20 World Championships—Morgan Turner and Taylor Whiting saw favorable results in the Tuesday evening semifinals and were pulled into the women’s freestyle repechage.

Turner, the two-time U17 World champion, went 1-1 at 50 kg for the U.S. women. She opened the event with a first-period pin against 2026 U20 Asian champion Parveen of India, before dropping her quarterfinal contest to 2024 U17 World champion Yuu Katsume of Japan by 11-0 technical fall.

In her opening match, Whiting was pinned in the second period by 2024 U17 World champion Kaura Coles of Canada at 53 kg.

Both Katsume and Coles navigated to the gold medal round, putting both Turner and Whiting one win away from bronze medal match appearances. Turner awaits the winner between two-time U20 European runner-up Josephine Wrensch of Germany and Serineh Crane of Armenia. Whiting is paired against U20 Asian champion Muskan of India.

One semifinal result did not go America’s way. Ukraine’s Khrystyna Demchuk fell short in the 72 kg semifinals, keeping Gretchen Donally out of the repechage.

Additionally, the gold medal matches were set in Greco-Roman group three. U.S. entrants in these brackets—Manuel Saldate at 60 kg and Arvin Khosravy at 82 kg—both lost competitive round one matches and were not pulled into repechage.

The action continues from A4 Studio at 6 p.m. local time with the Greco-Roman group two (55-67-72-97 kg) medal matches. Bratislava, Slovakia, is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Time.
