Solodchuk challenges the call and fails, giving Squier a 3-2 lead. Four-point front headlock toss from Squier off of a Solodchuk arm throw attempt to go up 7-2 midway through the first period. Action goes off the mat for a Squier step-out, 8-2. Squier finishes it off with a takedown going off the mat for a 10- 2 technical fall at 3:35.

Esguerra earns the first chance on top at 4:34, leading 1-0. Lift and toss for Esguerra to take a 5-0 lead. Gomez Garcia counters the next Esguerra turn attempt and catches him in a trapped arm gutwrench, ending the match 13-5 at 3:44.

The match stops at 4:34 for blood time for Bowling IV, still scoreless. Toplak gets the first opportunity on top from passivity. No turn, and we go back to standing at 3:43 with Toplak leading 1-0. The score holds until the break. Another blood stoppage for Bowling IV at 2:27. Bowling IV earns the passivity call and gets his chance on top at 2:12. Bowling with a straight lift, correct throw, and is reversed. Toplak with a correct throw going off the mat. The U.S. corner challenges the sequence. The challenge is won, bringing the score back to 1-1. An offensive leg foul from the first Bowling IV throw nullified all action thereafter. High dive to the back for Squier lands out-of-bounds with six seconds left in the match to take a 5-4 lead. The Georgia corner challenges the call. The call is upheld, giving Squier a 6-4 lead. Squier takes it 6-4 over the returning champion.

Kalmagambetov will go on top first after a passivity goes against Nutter at 4:33. Nutter stays strong underneath. Back to standing at 4:13 with Kalmagambetov leading 1-0. The score holds until the break. Passivity against Kalmagambetov at 2:18 and Nutter goes on top. Nutter unable to get a turn. We are back to standing at 1:58 with Kalmagambetov leading 1-1 on criteria. No points the rest of the match, and Nutter falls, 1-1.
