2026 U20 World Championships Day One Match Notes

Leister Bowling IV finished in fifth place at 77kg at the U20 World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria.
The 2026 U20 World Championships kick off on Sunday from A4 Studio in Bratislava, Slovakia. Today will feature Greco-Roman group one (63-77-87-130 kg) preliminary rounds and semifinals. Updates and results from each Team USA match can be found below.
10 a.m. – Qualification Rounds (GR 63-77-87-130 kg)
5:15 p.m. – Opening Ceremony
6 p.m. – Semifinals (GR 63-77-87-130 kg)

Step-out for Yoshida at 4:58 to take a 1-0 lead. Underhook throw by Yoshida for a takedown, 3-0. Squier successfully holds off a lift attempt. Passivity point for Yoshida to take a 4-0 lead and gain top position at 4:34. An offensive leg foul on a gutwrench attempt brings Squier back up to standing, keeping the score 4-0 for Yoshida. Squier counters an underhook for a takedown, getting on the board. It’s 4-2 Yoshida at 3:58. Yoshida goes snap, drag, takedown to make it 6-2 at 3:38. Underhook, snap, go-behind for Yoshida pushes the lead to 8-2 at the break. Yoshida finishes the match 10-2 at 2:33 with a body lock finish for the final takedown.
Headlock for Hibarino four seconds into the match to take a 4-0 lead. Arm spin takedown for Hibarino at 5:44 to go up 6-0. Sorrow steps over a lift attempt to cut into the lead, 6-1. He adds a lift-and-turn to make it 6-3 at 5:20. Another headlock, four-pointer for Hibarino, gives him a 10-3 lead at the break. A Hibarino headlock attempt is countered for a Sorrow takedown, 10-5 early in the second period. A flying squirrel attempt from Sorrow is countered by Hibarino for four points. The call is challenged and overturned for no points, keeping the score 10-5 with seven seconds left. No points in the final flurry.
Bowling is put underneath on passivity at 4:33. Terteryan lands a trapped-arm gutwrench and a lift going off the mat with no exposure to take a 4-0 lead. Back to standing at 3:58. The score holds until the break. Terteryan drives an underhook off the mat at 2:22 for a point, 5-0. Another passivity point for Terteryan pushes the lead to 6-0 at 1:30. He elects to remain in neutral position. No points in the final pummel. Terteryan takes the win, 6-0.
Abdevali gets the first chance on top from passivity, leading 1-0 at 4:46. Abdevali runs out to a front headlock, Boger fends off the attack. Back to standing at 4:27. Body lock to the back for Abdevali, and he gets a fall as time expires in the period. The U.S. corner challenges, and the action is overturned due to a leg foul. Boger gets a point due to a second offensive leg foul called against Abdevali. The match is tied, 1-1, at the break. Abdevali strikes with a body lock to the back early in the second period to take a 5-1 lead. Abdevali drives through an underhook in back-to-back sequences for a pair of takedowns, ending the match, 9-1, at 1:17.
