Bo Bassett (Windber, Pa./Titan Mercury WC) has been named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week.

Bassett captured the Senior and U20 men’s freestyle titles during the 2026 U.S. Open Championships. Bassett also garnered Outstanding Wrestler honors in the U20 division.

At 65 kg, Bassett collected five wins en route to the Senior division title with two pins and two technical falls. In the quarterfinals, Bassett edged 2026 NCAA champion Aden Valencia in a tight 11-10 decision, scoring a takedown in the final 10 seconds to seal the win.

In the semifinals, Bassett won a 10-0 contest over age-group World medalist Beau Bartlett. Against two-time age-group World medalist Joey McKenna in the championship bout, Bassett notched his second-straight 10-0 victory.

Bassett finished 7-0 in the U20 men’s freestyle division, with all seven victories coming via technical fall. He did not allow a point until the semifinals, where he grabbed a 14-4 win over Tyler Dekraker. In finals, Bassett picked up another 14-4 tech fall over Kellen Wolbert.

With two titles at the U.S. Open, Bassett has now secured his spot in 2026 Final X, presented by Kerberos Capital Management on June 19. He will take on Real Woods for a spot on the 2026 Senior World Team. Bassett also moved into the best-of-three championship series at the 2026 U20 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio, on May 29.
