The major age-group national championships for women, the Body Bar Women’s Nationals, will be hosted at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., April 20-22.Major USA Wrestling national championships for female wrestlers will be held at three different age levels: University, FILA Junior and FILA Cadet. In addition, a Girls Freestyle National Championship will be held for two age divisions, grades 3-6 and grades 7-8. Athletes can register online for a discounted entry fee. The deadline to register online is Tuesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. MST. Athletes competing in the Women’s University competition must be 18-24 years old (1983-1989) and have graduated from high school. For the Women’s FILA Junior Nationals, athletes must be 17-20 years old (1987-1989). Athletes can also participate with a medical certificate if born in 1990. The Women’s FILA Cadet tournament is open to athletes 15-17 years old (1990-1991) and those born in 1992 with a medical certificate. Traditionally, the Body Bar Women’s Nationals features many of the best athletes in the nation, regardless of age. Several winners from last year’s University competition can compete for the final time this year in the Body Bar. Those athletes include: Liz Short (USOEC), Mary Kelly (NYAC), Sharon Jacobson (Gator WC), Randi Miller (Gator WC) and Megan Goldsmith (Univ. of Calgary). Other winners from the University level who can return include Othella Lucas (Cumberlands), Alaina Berube (Cumberlands) and Tabetha Golt (Cumberlands). Past FILA Junior winners who can return include Nicole Woody (NYAC), Deanna Rix (NYAC), Jackie Cataline (Cataline’s Wildcat WC) and Dallas Monreal-Berner (Team West Wolves). Champions from the Body Bar FILA Junior Women’s National Championships earn the right to represent the USA at the FILA Junior World Championships in Beijing, China, August 20-25. Winners from the University level will have the chance to compete in the 2007 Pan American Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador, May 16-20. At the Body Bar Women’s Nationals, all contestants must be USA Wrestling members.
