Andy Hrovat (Ann Arbor, Mich./New York AC) has been named TheMat.com Athlete of the Week for the week of April 13-19. Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. Hrovat was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the men's freestyle East Regional Olympic Team Trials Qualifier in Brockport, N.Y. this past weekend. Hrovat won all five of his matches on his way to the gold medal at 84 kg/185 lbs. The win qualifies Hrovat for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Wrestling in Indianapolis, Ind., May 21-23. In the finals, Hrovat defeated Pat Popolizio 5-2 in overtime. Hrovat outscored his other opponents 23-1 and recorded one fall in the tournament.
