Oregon State Annual Intrasquad Meet Set For Saturday



CORVALLIS, Ore. Oregon State will hold its annual Intrasquad Wrestling Meet this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Gill Coliseum. The Beavers will be put five nationally-ranked wrestlers on the mat that afternoon - 157-pounder Eric Jorgensen, heavyweight Jason Cooley, 125-pounder Nathan Navarro, 174-pounder Nathan Coy and 133-pounder Ben Richards. Jorgensen (La Grande, Ore./La Grande HS), a senior, is ranked 12th nationally by Amateur Wrestling News and ninth by InterMat. Last season, he was 29-6 with five pins and was ranked as high as fourth in the nation. Cooley (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service HS), a junior, is ranked eighth by AWN and ninth by IM. Last season, he won the Pacific-10 championship and finished the season 25-8 with two pins, reaching as high as No. 7 in the national rankings. Navarro (Ontario, Ore./Ontario HS), a junior, is ranked eighth by AWN and ninth by IM. Last season, he went 22-14 with two pins and was just one win away from All-America status. Coy (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City HS), a junior, is ranked 13th by AWN and 14th by IM. Last season, he went 21-13 and placed second in the Pacific-10. Richards (Salem, Ore./South Salem HS), a senior, is ranked 18th by AWN. Last season, he battled through back spasms to post a 17-13 record with three pins and made his third straight trip to the NCAA Championships. After the Intrasquad Meet, Oregon State will participate in a pair of non-scoring meets. OSU will send most of its starting lineup to the Omaha Open in Omaha, Neb., on Nov. 18 while the rest of the Beavers go to the Southern Oregon Open in Ashland. Oregon State begins its dual meet season at home against Stanford on Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. The Beavers' home schedule in 2000-01 also includes duals against No. 1 Iowa (Jan. 6), No. 11 Arizona State (Jan. 26) and arch-rival Oregon (Feb. 14), plus multi-dual meets vs. Cal-Davis, Pacific (Ore.) and Central Washington (Dec. 16) and Cal Poly and Boise State (Jan. 20).
