Olympic Gold Medalists Speak Out To Support Olympic Wrestling



With the vote on wrestling’s Olympic future looming, Olympic gold medalists from a variety of sports have stepped up to voice their support to keep Olympic wrestling.

Swimming legend Natalie Coughlin, USA Soccer hero Brandi Chastain, Women’s Basketball icon Lisa Leslie, Decathlete Dan O’Brien, and High Jump pioneer Dick Fosbury have all come out in support of Olympic Wrestling.

Natalie Coughlin is the most decorated female American Olympian of all-time. She earned a total of 12 Olympic medals, three of them gold. Coughlin competed in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic games.

Brandi Chastain is a three-time Olympic medalist in Women’s Soccer. She played on the U.S. Olympic teams in 1996, 2000 and 2004 winning gold medals in 1996 and 2004. Chastain is also famously known for her game winning penalty kick against China in the finals of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Lisa Leslie is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and the all-time leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker in USA Women’s Basketball Olympic history. She is a two-time WNBA Champion and was named MVP of the WNBA three times. Leslie is also the first player to successfully dunk the basketball in a WNBA game.

Dan O’Brien is a 1996 Olympic gold medalist in the decathlon and was once proclaimed the “world’s greatest athlete.”

Dick Fosbury is a 1968 Olympic gold medalist in the high jump. Fosbury revolutionized the sport by inventing the back first technique now universally used in the modern day high jump event.
