REMINDER - Memorial Service for the late Bill Farrell set for June 9 at New York Athletic Club

There will be a memorial service in honor of past Olympic Freestyle Coach and NYAC President Bill Farrell at the New York Athletic Club on Sunday June 9th from 2pm till 5pm. Anyone who is interested in attending please rsvp to one of the following people IMMEDIATELY:

Bill Farrell was the head US Olympic Freestyle coach in 1972 and NYAC wrestling coach and chairman from 1962 to 1976. He was also President of the NYAC from 1981 to 83. His 1972 Olympic team won more medals than any other US team of the modern Olympiad, with three Gold, two silver and one bronze medal. He also competed for the NYAC and USA at 190 lbs.and was a member of the 1963 US World team.

A variety of guests are expected to attend the event to share their thoughts and stories about Bill's amazing life. The event was originally scheduled to be held last fall but had to be cancelled due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Please dress appropriately: men; jacket, collared shirt, no jeans, shorts, sneakers. Women; business attire, no jeans or sneakers.

“This is an opportunity for everybody involved in all aspects of Bill's life to come together, celebrate what he has done for our sport and the NYAC and to get closure after his passing,” said Sonny Greenhalgh, past NYAC Wrestling chairman and assistant to Bill for many years.

Bill Farrell passed away at age 82 on June 8th, 2012. A private funeral service was held in July at his home on Long Island.

Farrell was a true visionary and leader who made a major impact on wrestling at all levels.

He was also the top wrestling executive for ASICS America Corporation, helping build and expand its wrestling business to become the leading company for wrestling shoes and products in the world.

The New York Athletic Club is located at 180 Central Park South in Manhattan. The memorial will be held on the 9th floor.
