The Olympic Training Center resident wrestlers are bringing a little mayhem to Colorado Springs by hosting the Mayhem in the Mountains youth wrestling tournament on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at the Colorado Springs Event Center.

The tournament will serve as a fundraiser to aid the continuation and growth of the Olympic Training Center Resident Program. Not only will wrestlers and coaches from the OTC be running the tournament, but they will also be available as coaches for the young athletes in attendance.

National Freestyle Development Coach, Bill Zadick is expecting this tournament to be a great success for both the youth athletes as well as the OTC resident athletes.

“It will be an opportunity for athletes, coaches and parents from everywhere to have fun at a competition while at the same time support the OTC resident program and dreams and goals of the next generation of Olympic hopefuls,” Zadick said.

The Pikes Peak Wrestling League has teamed up with USA Wrestling to put this event together with the goal of providing youth wrestlers with a quality tournament and a one of a kind experience.

“With the Pikes Peak Wrestling League being located in Colorado, we’ve been blessed to have a great relationship with the many aspiring wrestlers as they reach for such quality achievements in our sport,” said Jay Eide, president of the Pikes Peak Wrestling League. “We are honored to put on a tournament to help out financially in any way possible, and hope any youth wrestling family with interest in supporting the Olympic vision considers attending and supporting our sport’s elite athletes.”

In addition, Kevin Hummer, owner of the Colorado Springs Event Center, has graciously offered the event center space for this tournament free of charge.

“It is a honor to help the OTC developmental group. Zeke, Bill and Brandon are an awesome group to work with, they all have a successful plan that they are trying to implement in this next quad,” Hummer said. “It all starts with having fundraisers and meeting people that have that same desire to be the best in the world.”

The Mayhem in the Mountains will be open to all youth wrestlers up to the age of 15, and wrestlers will be grouped by age, weight and skill divisions. Each wrestler will be guaranteed five matches and there will be a trophy awarded to the winner of each bracket, with medals going to the other place winners.

All proceeds from the event will go to support the Olympic Training Center wrestlers in their efforts towards the Olympics and World Championships.
