Alyssa Lampe named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week



Alyssa Lampe (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of Sept. 12-17.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

In a battle of past U.S. World Team members, Lampe defeated Whitney Conder in two straight matches to win the title at 51 kg/112.25 lbs. at the 2012 U.S. Women’s World Team Wrestle-offs at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs on September 15.

Lampe defeated Conder, 2-1, 1-1 in the first match of the series, then won the second bout in three periods, 1-0, 0-2, 2-0

Lampe was on the 2010 U.S. World Team at 48 kg while Conder competed on the 2011 U.S. World Team at 51 kg. Lampe will be competing in her second World Championships.

To reach the Championship Series finals, Lampe pinned Jessica Fresh of Waldorf College in the second period in the semifinals, 7-0, 1:23

Lampe placed second in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at 48 kg. She is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete. She is originally from Tomahawk, Wis.
