Coleman Scott named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for June 5-11

Coleman Scott (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for June 5-11.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Scott earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team at 60 kg/132 lbs. after winning a Wrestle-Off over Shawn Bunch and Reece Humphrey on June 7 at Times Square in New York City.

Scott won a best-of-3 freestyle series over Bunch, a past World Team member, to land a berth in the Olympic Games in London.

Scott won the first match over Bunch 1-0, 0-1, 7-0 before Bunch bounced back to win the second match 1-1, 1-0, 1-0.

Scott then won the decisive third match 1-0, 5-0 to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.

Scott, who won the Olympic Team Trials in April, beat 2011 World Team member Reece Humphrey 1-0, 0-1, 1-0 in the first match of the day to earn a shot at Bunch in the best-of-3 finals. Bunch had earned a spot in the finals after qualifying the U.S. for the Olympics. Bunch placed third in an Olympic qualifying tournament in China to qualify the U.S. for London at 60 kg.

The event was held alongside the USA vs. Russia freestyle dual meet, won by the USA 4-3.
