By Bree Craig USA Wrestling
USA Wrestling has announced that the ASICS Kids Freestyle and Greco-Roman National Championships will return to Utah for the next two years.
The event will take place at the UCCU Events Center on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
The tournament is scheduled for June 26-28, 2012 and June 25-27, 2013.
The ASICS Kids National Championships has been successfully hosted by USA Wrestling Utah for the last four years prior to this announcement.
Due to the growing participant numbers over the past several years, Utah has been chosen to continue as the host of the ASICS/USA Wrestling Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships.
“Utah has really done a great job of growing this event and we are excited about this success. USA Wrestling would love to expand our partnerships with college institutions. Working with Utah Valley University is a great opportunity for us, and we look forward to our partnership” says Pete Isais, Director of National Events at USA Wrestling.
The 2011 ASICS Kids Freestyle & Greco- Roman National Championships reached the highest participant attendance in 10 years and an all time record turnout for Greco-Roman. The event had 575 participants from across the country, representing 34 states.
Competitors last year came from: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Attention Kids Wrestlers: You can compete in any region that you choose to gain points in the U.S. Future Olympian Rankings. However, you must compete in your designated regional in order to qualify to compete in the Kid’s Nationals. You can go online to find what region your state is in at www.usawrestling.org
This event is also the second and third leg of USA Wrestling’s Triple Crown series. All wrestlers that win the ASICS/USAW Folkstyle Nationals in April, and win both styles at the Kid’s Nationals in Utah will be honored as USA Wrestling’s Triple Crown winners. In recognition of their achievement, all Triple Crown winners will have their picture on the following season’s national events poster.
