Numerous media have reported that John E. du Pont, 72, who murdered Olympic wrestling champion Dave Schultz, died in prison this morning in Pennsylvania.

Nancy Schultz, Dave Schultz’ widow and a leader in the wrestling community, said that she felt an odd sense of relief after hearing the news.

“The Schultz family wants to thank everyone who has spent time supporting us the whole time and helped us in so many ways,” said Nancy Schultz.

Word is quickly reaching those within the wrestling community.

“We are hopeful that the wrestling community, and especially Dave Schultz’ family and friends, will find closure from this unfortunate part of our shared experience of losing our friend Dave Schultz,” said Rich Bender, Executive Director of USA Wrestling.
